The Leaf
I am the leaf which has a center
And from the center I extend outward
And in my extension I search for receivers
But miss because I extend to inwards
So I must move to other outwards
Who have a will to meet receivers
And leave the inwards that can’t receive
As I extend outward from the center.
The Leaf of Detachment
I am the leaf
Which falls from the tree
And sails on the breeze
Carelessly
On my path
I collect nothing
But love for the wind
The rain and the trees
The leaf focuses
On fleeting motion
Until it lands
Upon your feet.
The Leaf of Rebirth
I am the Leaf
Which sprouts from the tree
The seasons change gradually
Exposing every shade of green
I turn amber
With the nearness of winter
And fall from the tree
In a shower of leaves
In hibernation
I notice the relative distance
Between the roots and branches
And my contribution to both of them
In the warmth of spring
I return as a leaf
In a familiar shade of green
On a higher branch than previously.
The Pianist and the Dancer
I had a vision of a lady
Dancing to a melody
That floated on the harmony
The pianist played carefully
The dusk light through the window
Silhouetted the dancer’s figure
Tapping rhythm to the beat
Of the pianist’s melody and harmony
Nimble fingers play the keys
Hammers resonating strings
The tune carries endlessly
Moving the dancer’s feet.
Constellation of a Friend
Last night I saw a constellation
Of a friend of mine from heaven
The stars made up his outer being
But the brightest star is never seen
So now I try to contact my friend
So I can see the star again
That’s missing from the constellation
That hangs from the stars of heaven.
